Biography

I was born in a south-eastern Italian city, in a medical family at the end of the 1950s. The first input came out by my paternal grandfather, doctor and painter, who crossed the fundamental currents of the XX century and was able to pass me the impulse to search what is the deepest element in existence. At twenty I left the eastern borders to reach Florence.

I did scientific studies, I graduated Mathematics and Physics and taught this subject in the secondary schools for three years. During the preparation of my thesis on “Color Vision” , (mathematical models of approximation to colorblind patient vision), I did my first watercolor exhibition. At that time I begun to deal with astrology.

My aim was based on revealing the soul of the things through painting: “ What the eyes don’t perceive at all it has to exist if it is touching the strings of my heart”- I thought..

The tools I used to serve this purpose were light materials: watercolor or china inks and pigments, approaching with my breath the latter I saw them flying in the air and quietly spreading on the paper by my fingers at the end.

I felt my being flowing on the paper into inner landscapes when my hand was driving the movement of the brush dipped in fresh watercolors.

The encounter with Rudolf Steiner ‘s Spiritual Science occurred during my university studies and the inspiration he gave me has still been staying inside me like a friendly presence in my professional and artistic training.

In my artistic research two rivers across each other, “know thyself “ and biography.

From the beginning of the 1990’s to the first years of the 2000’s I decided to face on material-laden painting using my chemical researches skills: I started preparing tables with quartz, hematite, alabaster or marble sands ground layers to paint on with oil or tempera based pigments and earth colors . The result was rich of interest, in those paintings on mineral sands primed boards or canvases I was looking for the link between metals and planets as ancient human healing processes seemed to hint.

Poetry and fragility never abandoned me during my research on material painting even though the tendency to seek tougher challenges brought me successively to put intense colored surfaces and contrasted colored tones into dialogue on large format canvases.

It fills like the mineral material – laden delicate colored paintings wear a feminine style while a masculine note resounds into the intense large colored – contrasted surfaced pictures.

The opposite and the different are called to dialogue, the streams of colors and thoughts cross in the heart and there they meet exposing their true nature of living being.

The collaboration with women and man artists at the same time left tangible prints in my personal and artistic evolution too.

Cultivating these dialogues inside and outside of me I observed a source catalyzing the flowering of new expressive languages in my worldview.

As a part of the whole I gained experience in clay modeling, crayon drawing or ink-sign but more than others in collection and assembling objects found along the way, set adrift along the beach after a storm, surely set up for destructive natural process if not for receiving a new identity through a conscious effort of composition with other materials in a creative process.

In addition to all this I am writing my diary since when I was an adolescent, I love the narration and feel myself expanded listening to individual’s storytelling .

For this when people ask me to share the result of my research through didactic and training sessions I welcomed enthusiastically the proposal and gained the opportunity to lead collective and personal counseling soon transformed in artistic workshops. This item had as result to create a new deal in my career promoting social art by age group: children, teen agers and adults .

Currently my artistic counseling and social art sessions are addressing to the so named “vulnerable people”, those body or mental disable persons and the older ones living in the assisted health care homes until their death.

What concern fragility is coming back with different shapes into my artistic career and is confirmed to be opened and oriented to transformation as the current social projects say. In the same manner the conservation of the younger works is a question of to let them go to their becoming up to enter with little final touches seeing them unfinished works after many years of estrangement .

At present my generation experiences discomfort , it had been working so longer also in artistic way to found new values and rights which seemed to be solid and forever.

On the other hand values and rights seems like rocks in the fog today, at the place of the inner meaningful beauty mirrored by aesthetics of a work now we are witnessing soulless exteriority.

The concepts believed obvious have to be shaped in a new form, the concept of art too, perhaps.

I am looking for letters for a new alphabet, I should like to tell of authenticity to not lose the thread of human being.

Curriculum

1984-1995 meeting with the painter Fiorenza de Angelis in Florence in 1984 and decision to attend the Rudolf Steiner Antroposophical perspective painting courses and residencial workshops with her.

1987-1990 Degree in Physics in Arcetri, (University of Florence) and professional teacher in Mathematichs and Physics lessons in secondary schools.

1992-1995 Attendence of “Metamorfosi” , Steiner Pedagogical Training School for Educational Studies in Milan, painting, clay modeling and drawing courses.

1992 Professional Studies on Human Biography with the trainer Rosa Letelier ,(Trento and Florence).
2020-2023 Attendance of Accademia del Giglio, (Florence), drawing and oil painting courses, with M° Apollon e M° Stefano Cese, (504 hours).

During her university apprenticeship E.L. approached the Spiritual Science of Rudolf Steiner and other connected disciplines as Eurythmy, mythological and ancient religions studies together with pedagogical and art therapeutic trainings that oriented her research in a social direction. Since 1990 she has taking part, together with other artists, in cultural initiatives.

Her works come out from using sands, woods, iron and natural pigments collected during her travels, salvage materials that she models and binds in colours and signs drawing straight inspiration from the approach with the original matter as well as from the experience in old and new formulas.
Recent studies include large format canvases where the bright colors spreading over large surfaces link to the memory of silent and contemplative states.
Her works are present in public and private collections.

Teaching and collaborations

2024 Un fiume di solidarietà is the project supported by Publiacqua Firenze, in which the artist carries out painting and decoration courses and a final painting exhibitions aimed to disabled people of the association Per Crescere Insieme of San Casciano val di Pesa

2024 Within the project Incontri con il colore III, E.L. leads painting courses aimed to each resident group of people living in the RSA of Villa Amelia (Prato), of Villa Iole (Bagno a Ripoli), and of Villa San Martino, (San Casciano val di Pesa) with a final collective exhibition.

2020-2023 Regard to the project Incontri con il colore II, E. L. proposes painting experiences to the assisted health facility Villa San Martino resident people and both handicap people Per crescere insieme associated group with a final collective exhibition on june

2023 at RSA Villa San Martino, (San Casciano val di Pesa), for the tenth anniversary of the health residence.

2018-2019 in 2018, for the first tim, the artist elaborates the project Incontri con il colore, supported by Fondazione Chiantibanca, a weekly painting session dedicated to the guest people living in the RSA Villa San Martino, (health residence), along a three months cycle; at the same time she trains a painting course with Per crescere insieme disabled people associated . The two experiences converge in a final collective watercolor painting exhibition inside the museum spaces Giuliano Ghelli in San Casciano val di Pesa.

Since 2009 she has been creating meetings and resident stages at his studio Atelier Stella in Sambuca Val di Pesa

In 2006 she started her collaboration with the “Per Crescere Insieme” association in San Casciano Val di Pesa creating paths of narrative and colored artistic experiences for the adolescent and disabled adults and painting training courses for the educator and voluntary groups both.

In 2005 she led “telling the fairytale” a course for the pupils of the dance school of Araceli Barcenas that successively will be espressed in motion together with the dancer and coreographer.

In the period 2004-2022 she was artist-training teacher of the school teacher training at Libera Scuola Steineriana Janua , Roma

In the period 2000-2020 she has led adults, adolescent and children groups in artistic and pedagogical painting processes at MoviMenti studio Pontassieve, (FI), an holistic disciplines dedicated place created and directed by Madeleine Braun, dancer , teacher and choreographer.

During the seven–year-period 1990-1998, she has been leading art therapeutic and social experiences through painting courses for disabled people living in the health residence Centro di socializzazione di Tavarnelle val di Pesa, (FI) directed by ARCA Cooperative . Since 1990 she has been driving adults and children in painting workshops also organizing her cultural initiatives in partnership with other artists.

Curatorial activity

E. L. is the main curator of the exhibitions of the works realized by her students during paintings courses and artistic and social workshops.
