Biography
A couple of weeks ago in Tokyo, my brother whom I hadn’t seen in 4 years described me as “identity inferno”(pronounced with a Japanese accent). That made me laugh. In fact, true. I was born in California, raised in Tokyo (going to the American School In Japan), studied art in Providence, Rhode Island (USA) and have been living in Rome for the last thirty years.
My work focuses on the idea of identity as a nomadic subject to investigate its multiplicity.
I use different materials and techniques, whatever works the best for that specific occasion, but with a soft spot for drawing/painting.
Some recurring words (in alphabetical order for no apparent reason): backgammon, death, doubt, kore-nanzo, languages, layers, love, non-linear, process, relation-ship, spaces-in-between, staying-afloat, translation, woman…
