Biography
The Italian word “cercare” comes from the Latin “circare” (going around), it has always been my favorite word. I ran away from home when I was 18, at 20 I left Venice and moved to New York where I graduated in Architecture with a scholarship from the Cooper Union University. For 23 years this city became my home while I was traveling as much as possible. I was 43 when I returned to Italy as a stranger within the culture in which I grew up, I had learned the danger of cultural homologation, was curious and aware that I had the freedom to question.
I think maintaining this curiosity requires a clearing of all that is superfluous. Contaminations attract me, for this reason in my videos I mix documentary material with visual experimentation. I try to observe life as if it were a journey where boundaries become porous
and film to unravel the tangle of expectations that makes me blind.
For a number of years I have worked on a more intimate research while continuing a creative exchange with Paolo Buggiani.
