The Art Action Ecce Domina is a performance project by Laura VDB Facchini and curated by the WindMill ART POWER PLANT association, held on the occasion of the inauguration of the exhibition From Cajeta to Circe. Between care and magic at the Pinacoteca comunale of Gaeta, open from 12 March to 6 May 2023.
Ecce Domina. From Cajeta to Circe is part of the project Declinazione femminile/maschile conceived for the Women Visual Artists Database and was born from the need to stimulate a new reflection on what it might mean to be a woman in this particular historical period.
The same exhibition, curated by Laura VdB Facchini, is an international collective exhibition of women parallel to this huge project developed by the WindMill association. The title takes up two mythological female figures linked to the city of Gaeta: Cajeta, Aeneas’ nurse, who according to legend died in the very lands where the current homonymous city of southern Lazio was born; and Circe, sorceress and divinity of solar origin described in the Odyssey, who stayed in the Gulf of Gaeta. These two powerful and epic female figures are the starting point for a collective reflection, reported by each artist of the WAD&community through their own expressive means, on the representation of women through all the stereotypes that have come down to the present day.
The connection of all these reflections was made even more evident by the art action carried out at 3:00 pm on the day of the inauguration. For the realization of this performance, each artist chose, and presented on a central base, an object accompanied by a phrase. The result is a broad story of feminist themes experienced by each woman through memories and personal reflections. Each intimate thought that was made public allowed the sharing of a series of prejudices still deeply rooted in our society. Each sequence of the performance was immortalized in a video taken by the mobile phone and, later, re-edited in order to translate the entire action into an Art Video capable of reflecting the perceptions on this theme of each future spectator.
