Stefanie Oberneder
Biography
I was born on December 7,1976 under the 13th sign, ophiuchus, in Lindau, at Lake Constance, Germany, the conservative and Catholic part of Bavaria, in a neighborhood where all the fathers wore a uniform. At 14 I understood that neither God nor Motherland would give me comfort in this earthly life and that art had to become my life path. After my high school graduation leaving I decided to pursue an apprenticeship as a stone sculptor and was educated and trained for 3 years in the workshop of an architect-sculptor,Guenther Schrade. At the end of the course, I was awarded a scholarship that allwed me to spend my first 6 months in Italy, enrolling at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara,to study sculpture carving and bronze casting. From the first academic year I had the opportunity to create and show my work and participate in national exhibitions and competitions. In those years the project “L’ombelico del mondo”, (“navel of the world”) and the first of my three children (Leandro, Mia, Janosch) were born. My maternity and Carrara, the city that still hosts me today, has become the center of my creativity that has developed into many projects: CarraraStudiAperti, Collective Disturbate, Estensions.Oltre.LoSpazio In addition to dedicating myself to my children and to my research and artistic production, i have also given a part of myself to the community.
My works retain a “benevolent, promising, calming and at the same time illogical, alienating, perverse aspect: a powerful “illusion of reality” that draws its strength precisely from the contradiction, from the unexpected, from the undecidable, from the continuous reversals of fortune and meaning of which human reality is made. Pagan mythology embraced this paradox and embodied it in the monstrous double of the victim/king, the scapegoat who was sacrificed to bring order to the undifferentiated, to establish the rule, to measure the immeasurable. From this atavistic process of victimization and unstoppable deification the horned women are born, both human and beastly, hers is therefore a knowledge of violence and trauma, which places at the center of the observation not so much or not only the woman, but the gaze that the màtria, the gaze we all share of our common human condition, our traumatic matrix, always removed and to be found, like the traces of our misdeeds.” Thus wrote Giulio Milani in 2018 and to this day it is the explanation that I continue to use to tell my persuits, vision and the meaning of it all.
I will continue to search, to try, to do and undo….
