Roma Visiva 2021
Roma Visiva has made the W.A.D.&Community project known by giving as an example the artistic contribution given by two women of extraordinary caliber belonging to different generations: Mimì Quilici Buzzacchi and Laura Grisi.Their remarkable artistic careers are a typical representative case of the gap between a great female artistic contribution and the minimal recognition given to them by the art world in terms of exhibitions in galleries, museums and books.Mimì Quilici Buzzacchi and Laura Grisi are linked by two elements: the figure of Folco Quilici, Mimì is his mother and Laura is his first wife, and by the city of Rome. In fact, Mimì Quilici Buzzacchi was born in Medole but spent her entire professional life in Rome from 1945 to 1990, the year of her death.Similarly Laura Grisi was born in Rhodes but studied, lived and worked in Rome so much so that both exhibited several times at the Quadriennale in this city. Laura VdB Facchini’s creative activity is also linked to the city of Rome and to the two artists, albeit indirectly.
It is Guido Angelo Facchini, director of the cultural magazine Diamante of Ferrara and promoter of many cultural initiatives, who speaks to his niece Laura VdB Facchini about the great artistic abilities of Mimì Quilici Buzzacchi. Guido Angelo and Mimì were in fact friends and contemporaries.Just as Folco Quilici speaks to Laura VdB Facchini about the artistic talent of his first wife Laura Grisi. It is in this way that Laura VdB Facchini discovers in Grisi a woman who makes her life a tireless artistic research, an absolutely original path, not pigeonholable, an expert traveler who works and exhibits all over the world, an extraordinary example of a female figure.
These subtle twists have tied together the plots of the Quilici and Facchini families for almost a hundred years now. A plot that becomes a family story to which Laura VdB Facchini wants to dedicate a tribute. This is how the artistic action called “Florilegio” was born, dedicated to Mimì Quilici Buzzacchi and Laura Grisi. “Florilegio” wants to be a gesture of gratitude for the courage and avant-garde nature of these artists.
The artistic action “Florilegio” consists of a particular floral creation made by Laura VdB Facchini with fifteen square meters of white canvas and a video that offers a sequence of black and white photos of the works of the two artists to underline their “not being highlighted” in the contemporary artistic panorama.
